Forty-two weeks, one page each: what your baby is doing, what your body is doing, and the thing most people only find out afterwards. Written to be read at 2am, when the questions actually turn up.
The three trimesters
First trimester
Weeks 1–13
From a positive test to the end of week 13. The most is happening and the least is showing: every major organ starts to form, and most of what you feel is hormonal — tiredness, nausea, tender breasts, a nose that suddenly runs the room.
Second trimester
Weeks 14–27
Usually the kindest stretch. Nausea eases, energy comes back, the bump becomes obvious, and somewhere around week 18–22 you feel the first movements. The anatomy scan lands here, and so does finding out the sex if you want to.
Third trimester
Weeks 28–42
The home stretch, and the heaviest one. Baby gains most of their weight, movements turn from flutters to shoves, sleep gets awkward, and the practical questions arrive: hospital bag, birth plan, what early labour actually feels like.
Every week
Pick the week you're in. Weeks are counted from the first day of your last period, which is why a positive test usually lands around week 4 or 5.
