This wax "cheese" does not look very attractive, but is very useful — it protects the sensitive skin of your child from the surrounding amniotic fluid. Without this, the pea would look wrinkled at birth.

Just try to lie in a warm bath for 9 months yourself! This cheese lubricant is washed off closer to the birth, but some babies (especially those who were born prematurely) are covered with it at birth, so you can probably see the natural anti-wrinkle cream of your baby.
