Fruit during pregnancy
Of the 2 fruit entries here, 2 are fine. Usually it's how something was cooked or stored that decides it, not the food itself — each entry says which, and why.
Every fruit entry, with a verdict
Sorted with the ones worth knowing about first. Avoid means skip it entirely; take care means it depends on how it was prepared.
All types of berries
SafeBerries are a great product during pregnancy! They are rich with vitamin C, beta carotene, potassium, folic acid, and antioxidants. This is especially true for strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. They are all needed by your baby to have healthy skin and immune system. There's no daily limit, so eat as many as you like — just rinse them under running water right before eating. Eat berries after a meal high in protein or iron to absorb the nutrients better.
All types of fruit
SafeFruits are a pregnant woman’s best friend. They are full of vitamins and minerals, they are sweet and tasty! Keep some fruit with you as a snack when you go somewhere. Wash under running water and dry well just before eating — even fruit you peel, as the knife carries whatever is on the skin into the flesh. Scrub firm fruit like melon and apples, and cut away bruised bits. Keep cut melon in the fridge: left out on a warm day, listeria can grow on it. And don’t worry about a fruit you’ve never tasted before — there is none you need to avoid.
